The City of Kingston is in all its glory for the month of August with an event happening every weekend. Uptown and Downtown, the first weekend, are each abuzz with activity. Uptown, in our historic Stockade District, after the Farmers’ Market closes on Saturday, stick around, have dinner in your favorite restaurant and then pull up a chair for the Wall Street Jazz Festival. This upbeat, up-tempo festival features some of the most talented women in jazz. While downtown, in our historic Rondout Waterfront District, both Saturday & Sunday feature the Made 2 Envy Car Show. Car buffs rejoice in the spectacular display of color and metal on view for two days. Latin Fest takes place on Sunday August 10th in T.R. Gallo Park on the Rondout. Music, raffles, crafts, children’s rides and of course great Latino foods are all available to celebrate the Latin culture. The following weekend, the 15th through the 17th, dream of yesteryear as you stroll along the dock at the Antique Boat Show on the Rondout Waterfront. Also on Sunday the 17th, Kingston’s 14th Annual Artists’ Soap Box Derby is a feast for the eyes. Energy efficiency never looked better than when going down lower Broadway to the Strand. Uptown, on Saturday the 23, the 5th Annual Antique Fire Engine Muster draws attention from all over the Northeast. See the fire trucks of yesterday and purchase a raffle ticket to help preserve the Volunteer Firemen’s Museum. This event’s grand finale is a parade featuring all of the antique fire trucks, a sight you won’t want to miss. Rounding out our August events is the Hooley on the Hudson VII: A Celtic Festival. On Sunday August 31, delight in the history of Irish culture. Activities, music, dancing, cultural exhibits, food and craft vendors help to make everyone an honorary Irishman. Our Hooley shuttle bus schedule is as follows: Beginning at 11:00 a.m. the shuttle bus will go to Kingston Point Beach (which is handicapped accessible), the Cornell Street Parking Lot, and Kingston Plaza. The shuttle will run a continuous loop until 11:00 p.m.. More information on these events can be found on the City of Kingston Calendar page. As always, all of these events are free and open to the public. And don’t forget about our free Summer Concert Series, the schedule of which can also be found on our “Welcome” page.
